I've created a Benefits of Yoga document detailing how a yoga practice can better help your mind, body, and spirit. This karma download is perfect for those just starting out, or to be used as a reminder for those who are well-seasoned yogis, or to be shared with friends and family with questions about the practice. You can also use the two posters included to print and hang in the office as reminders to take a nice deep inhale, and long drawn exhale. I began an asana (physical) practice in Charleston, SC in 2008 as a way to reduce my medication intake and ease symptoms of a chronic disease. Over time and different cities, I added pranayama (breath-work), meditation, and svadhyaya (self-reflection). From my routine, I grew into a lovely community in which to learn and practice the yamas and niyamas (ethical principles or moral codes). Coupling these practices with modifications to diet, water intake, and additional stress reductions (like walking on the beach!), my health soared.
While I am on a biologic medication now to manage my disease, yoga helps keep my mind in focus, my body strong, and my spirit unwavering. Yoga has helped me through relationships, international moves, parenting, and more—safe to say, life. I hope this karma download can help you or someone close to you find a path to yoga where they can build strength, balance, and peace. Leave a comment below to share how you've used the knowledge. Come as you are. That's it.I often hear people use their "lack of flexibility" as a reason to not start practicing yoga. I like to explain that flexibility is a result or outcome of yoga, not a requirement. There are many other reasons I've heard, so I created this "Beginner's Guide to Yoga" to help dispel some of the fears of starting a new practice and give some tips on what may help guide the path.
Share this guide with anyone who is considering yoga, but may have reservations. Many may think yoga has requirements, prerequisites, expectations, and similar barriers to entry. But as a yoga teacher, my only expectation is for one to show up and come as you are.

The Aerobathon yoga class was a success. We practiced a mini-vinyasa flow and all the yogis did wonderfully, especially as some had just come from a spin class! It was wonderful to see everyone move within their own bodies on their mats, connect breath with movement, as well as taking rests when needed and pushing forward when able.
